About Advance Cargo Declaration (ACD)

The Advance Cargo Declaration (ACD), also referred to as an Electronic Cargo Tracking Note (ECTN), is a mandatory pre-arrival document required by several African countries. It contains detailed information about the cargo, vessel, and exporter prior to arrival at the destination port. The ACD enhances transparency, ensures compliance with local regulations, and enables authorities to effectively monitor and control imports.

The ACD includes detailed information such as:

• Shipper, consignee, and notify party details
• Cargo description and declared values
• Vessel and voyage information
• Ports of loading and discharge

The ACD certificate must be issued before cargo loading, and the ACD number must appear on the Bill of Lading. Failure to obtain a valid ACD certificate may result in shipment delays, penalties, or refusal of clearance at destination ports.
